Creative Thinking - The Photographer Magazine

A few weeks ago I was approached by The Photographer Magazine to give some insight in to an article on photographic education.
I am please to see it has now been published with contributions from fellow educators, Professor Paul Wenham-Clarke (Course Leader, MA Commercial Photography, Arts University Bournemouth), Dr Mark Hall (Senior Lecturer, University of Derby) and Alan J Kent (Lecturer, Blackpool and Fylde College).
Reading through the article it is good to see the three contributors and I all have very similar viewpoints on photographic education including the approach and contemporary debates on employment. Many think a photographic education is not necessary and learning can be achieved solely online. I would disagree, the physical learning space allows peers and lecturers to fully discuss the diverse world of professional photography and encourage self-expression, develop a personal style and investigate what defines the differences between photographers. The first years are the most important in learning a foundation to the practice, however I will admit that once this foundation has been built the study of a Masters can be distance learning with support.
I am glad to see photographic education is in good hands.
