Jack Currie, a recent BA (Hons) Professional Photography graduate, has secured the Gold Award at the prestigious Association of Photographers (AOP) Emerging Talent Awards 2025.

The Winning Image: 'Gangster Granny'

Jack's winning photograph, titled ‘Gangster Granny,’ is a striking and humorous tribute to his late relative, Margaret Currie, whom he calls "perhaps the most gangster granny to ever live." The image has already generated significant buzz, earning press attention in major outlets including The Guardian, Amateur Photographer, and Digital Camera World.

The creative series features Jack's grandmother Margaret engaging in digitally altered, "dangerous activities" like skateboarding, speeding on a motorbike, and smoking from a bong. Jack explained that he used doubles and Photoshopto bring the concept to life. The viral skateboarding image, in particular, proved the most effective, winning multiple prior accolades from the IPA and Portrait of Britain before claiming the top AOP prize.

Rapid Career Trajectory

Since graduating from Edinburgh College Photography in June 2024, Jack's career has accelerated at an impressive pace. That same summer, he signed with the notable London agency Agent-at-Large and now splits his time between Edinburgh and London for assignments.

Scott Choucino, Head of Talent at Agent-at-Large said ‘Jack has an extremely rare set of qualities in such a young photographer; his instinct for what makes an engaging image are second to none, but importantly he’s also a great communicator. This combination of innate creative talent and a deeply personable nature lead to genre bending work such as his ‘Gangster Granny’ project. We’re incredibly proud of Jack and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him’.

His most recent high-profile work saw him commissioned to shoot the front cover of The Telegraph Magazine, capturing an image of Piers Morgan "stamping out woke"— a visual play on the theme of Morgan’s recently released book.
