PHOTO NORTH Festival - BA (Hons) Student Finalists

Photo North Festival curators have just announce the eight finalists of the student 2024 photography competition. I am pleased to announce that two of the selected finalists are Edinburgh College BA (Hons) Professional Photography students John Masson and Jennifer Charlton - well done a huge achievement.

John's selected photograph comes from the series 'Skinheads', a project he is developing for his Final Major Project.

Jennifer's selected photograph comes from the series 'A Hidden Community' focusing on stigmatism of mental health issues. The work was the result of a research module Photography In Context accompanied by a critical essay investigating the role of photography entitled "Has Photography evolved from documenting and potentially stigmatising mental illness in contemporary practice".

I have had the privilege to watch both these projects develop over the last few months and wish them well in the future. Both students are a credit to our BA (Hons) course and an example of the many award winning alumni and current students who study at Edinburgh College.

Phot North Festival is run by directors Peter Dench and Sharon Price develop sought-after public facing events by drawing on their extensive international network of film and photography related contacts.
